Ryan smirked brightly, and moved over to his Mom, Chad trading places with him. He walked next to her, pressing the barrel of the gun to her temple, causing her to scream, jerking away from the gun, but Ryan grabbed the back of her collar, stopping her from moving.
“No hard feelings Mom,” he smiled, lips pursed as he shrugged slightly. He turned to face Sharpay, moving from one distressed, terrified, crying face to another distressed, terrified, crying face. “Say goodbye to Mom, Sharpay!”
“NO!” Screamed Sharpay, stepping forward - Chad grabbed her from behind, and moved the knife to Troy’s neck, who went to run forward - as Sharpay screamed, Ryan pulled the trigger.

He tells Ryan that they’re the same, both shadows to the popular, stereotypical, white, straight people, so Ryan’s on board to help Chad out. However, Ryan’s motive isn’t exactly the same as Chad’s, he’s just bored and he had nothing better to do.
