Aubrey's always clung to everything she could reach. Be it people, memories, or what have you, she'd sooner be left behind herself than give away the little she's ever been given by the universe. And if she does lose something, she'll find something to fill the void.
Her mom drop her in favour of the bottle? Go live with Kim and Vance, their own mom is nice enough. Most of her old friends abandon her? Screw them, she'll find new ones that'll actually stick around. She's got everything figured out. Totally.
At least, until a brief respite appears in a streak of bad weather, and a door long thought closed opens.
