"A malfunction?" Jim looks from left to right. He is reminded of caves, or the depths of the Terran ocean, where no light breaches through. Were it not for the hands that refused to let go or the air between them so thick that it suffocates, Jim would not know Spock still stood in front of him.
"Unlikely," he says, pulling Jim in an inch. "The alternate power sources would have activated if so."
"Ah, a rather large malfunction, then?"
God begins to speak.
Citizens and guests of Starbase 10, please do not be alarmed. We are experiencing a technical malfunction of our internal lighting system. For your safety, please remain indoors until power can be fully restored. If you are not indoors, remain where you are and await further instruction
