Anaxa continued ignoring him. Friends were the last thing he was looking for, and even if they weren’t, he was certain this stranger would lose interest and find someone else after spending time with him. But Anaxa’s cold shoulder wasn’t enough to deter this persistent little child.
“I’m Phainon!” he added, extending his arms upwards to raise his puppy for Anaxa to see. “And this is Snowy. I think he likes you!”
When Anaxa decided to spare him another glance, Phainon grew visibly excited, as if he were expecting to hear his name in return. Instead, he received a taste of Anaxa’s best poker face as he expressionlessly stared down at him and Snowy, whose tail was wagging at 99 mph, before looking away again.
Anaxa makes his first friend at 12 years old, only to move far away not long after. Will Phainon remember their promise to see each other again, even after 15 years have passed?
