Summary
Brand didn’t always come to the Green Docks on his days off. There were times he just wanted to hole up, turn everything off and be still and quiet for one godsdamned hour. But sometimes - like today - all he wanted was a quiet drink and a no-strings fuck.

So Brand didn’t give him a chance to try to repeat himself, already running in the direction he knew Addam was.In the same way that he knew Rune hadn't followed him, he knew Addam was on the other side of the manor.

Summary
“Brandon.” Addam pulls back, placing his hands on each of Brand’s shoulders, and waiting until he reluctantly meets his eyes. “Under no circumstances would you be expected to prepare for resuscitating your scion on the floor of a hospital after a ruling Arcana used a mass sigil to disrupt his body’s vital life functions.” He tentatively wipes a tear from Brand’s cheek. “I imagine that was not part of the companion training manual.”

Summary
They’d never again get caught sneaking around after curfew, and Rune would never again challenge him to a race that he knew Brand would let him win. They’d never again stay up late sharing stories about their different lessons. Brand would never again be able to protect Rune; he would never again be a hero to him.
“Brand!”
Brand sucked in a breath. It felt almost like someone had placed a hand on his shoulder, with just the barest hint of sensation to the point where Brand wasn’t sure he hadn’t imagined it. But the voice calling his name. It sounded a lot like—
“Brand, look at me, please. Not at—not at my body. At me. Please.”
—Rune.
