Summary
“I’ll come by in the afternoon,” Eddie says. “And I’m sure everyone else will be visiting soon, too.”
Buck lets his head tip back against the pillow, staring up at the ceiling for a beat before shaking his head. “I can’t expect people to keep coming to see me while I just… sit around.” Buck mutters. Then his gaze flicks to Eddie, something weighted in the way he looks at him. “You don’t have to come see me, either.”
Eddie just stares at him, unimpressed.
The thing about Buck is, he gets in his own head too much. Thinks he’s a burden when he isn’t.
It’s a habit Eddie wishes he could break for him.
“Stop being a martyr,” he says and rolls his eyes. “I like spending time with you.”
Something shifts in Buck’s expression, subtle and unguarded. His eyes soften and turn glassy in the dim light, and for a second, Eddie forgets what he was even saying.
Then Buck exhales, small and quiet. “Okay.”
Or; Eddie visits Buck while he’s in the hospital.

Summary
While he was well aware that to others it might seem stupid to still be in this in between phase, stuck somewhere between friends and something more, Eddie enjoyed it.
He let himself enjoy the way his face flushed and skin buzzed around the other man, leaned into casual touches and gave back his own, enjoyed the way he would sometimes get stuck in a memory of their past experiences and life together and smile to himself. He liked the nervous-excited feeling in his chest whenever Buck was around, took his time in really taking in all the ways his body reacted when he really, genuinely liked and loved someone instead of the way he felt whenever he’d tried to convince himself of the same in the past.
And Buck let him.

Summary
Buck looks for Eddie's eyes, wants to decipher what the hell is going on in his mind. "What's going on?" he decides to ask, resolved to get his best friend to open up.
"I don't know what you want me to say–” Buck seems to think about it for a beat or two, scrunches his face before flinching at the way the steri-strips pull on his cuts.
"You said I didn't ask," he gulps once, then goes on, "so now I’m asking, Eddie." He pointedly holds Eddie's gaze. "What's going on?"
Eddie doesn’t answer. Instead, he sighs. “Would you let me do my job?” Then annoyedly murmurs, crossing his arms for major dramatic effect and snatching his wrist away from Buck’s grip in the process. So Buck decides to stand up, and that brings them impossibly close. So close that he can see the specks of caramel in Eddie’s irises. So close that he can see the way Eddie’s breath hitches when he minutely flinches.
Eddie rescues Buck, accidentally comes out to him, calls him an asshole and kisses him
