“Xiao,” says Verr Goldet, calling to him from the safe distance of Wangshu Inn’s reception level, “there’s a letter for you.”
The announcement nearly passes through Xiao’s ears as he stares at the plate of Almond Tofu left for him in the kitchen’s dining area. He had noticed what appeared to be an envelope in close proximity to his plate, and ignored it under the assumption that it was left forgotten by one of the staff. Xiao does not recognize the Inazuman address listed on the back when he picks up the envelope for a closer look, but the letter is unambiguously intended for him, bearing his name in fine penmanship on the front and marked with some red insignia stamped on the upper corner.

“I was admiring your – form.” His hands slide down to Wriothesley’s arms, closer to their desired target but not yet making the leap to where he’s staring.
“I see,” says Wriothesley, his tone less teasing and more inquisitive now. “Anything about it in particular?”

“Ah.” Zhongli stares at the open hand Sara has hovering his way. He then stares at his shoes, briefly over to Venti in his cell, up to Sara’s face, then back down to his shoes. “I suppose I should have thought of that.”
Or, Venti finally gets arrested by Kujou Sara, and Zhongli also gets arrested in his attempt to save him.

When the knock at her door finally comes, hours later, Franziska is sitting quietly at her kitchen counter, shoulders hunched, gripping her elbows with her arms crossed in front of her. She’s kicking one foot against the cabinet below her, lightly. She’s done everything she can, already, she’s slammed the doors and thrown her bag into the front closet, hard, and kicked her shoes off, and stood under boiling water in the shower, and sat shaking on the couch, nearly physically holding herself together lest she do something worse, she has done the angry sobbing and held up one half of an imaginary argument while pacing her kitchen island in circles, she’s done all of it. So now she’s sitting at her kitchen counter, exhaustion a weight hung in her ribcage, watching the oven clock click closer to the trial she has in the morning.
And then the knock at the door.
Or, Miles Edgeworth returns from the dead. Franziska von Karma stands at the bottom of a canyon, and looks up.

To say it had been a shock to see Phoenix across the courtroom from him that first time would be an understatement. Phoenix was an old, warm memory gone cold with time and von Karma’s influence. But facing that nervous smile, that brightly determined gaze, had cleared some of the fog. It had forced him to remember that sunlight existed. To realize it lived in too-kind eyes.
The gaze Phoenix fixes him with now is as dark and unsettling as a day that begins without dawn.
