Marie’s breath caught in her throat. “There must be some mistake.”
“There isn’t.” The Reverend Mother tapped the envelope once, then slid it across the desk.
Marie stared. “Why?”
The Reverend Mother gave her the closest thing to kindness Marie had ever seen from her. “Perhaps they see something in you. Or perhaps they see what they can make of you.”
