Quanxi pauses, coming up for air. “What?”
“Three guesses,” Makima is unfazed by all of her hard work below the belt, her breaths even and her cheeks lacking color, “for my real name. You get three guesses.”
“And if I’m wrong all three times?”
Her nails dig into Quanxi’s scalp. “You become my dog. I can’t stand to leave a stray out on the street.”

Blood rushed to Fugue’s cheeks, palpable intrigue swarming the air around her. Ruan Mei has been staring at her tails, and the poor woman likely didn’t even know. Everything starts to fall into place, all the curiosities about her partner’s behaviour making perfect, twisted sense. She’d never expected this could happen to a non-Foxian, but the heart works in mysterious ways.
Or, Ruan Mei has a headache all day and it turns out the solution lives in the wonderful pink fur of her partner's tails.
