Summary
The first paper was collected, and the name of the first possible person to be this year's seonmul was read aloud.
“Han Jisung.”
He froze where he stood, the quiet sentence he'd been whispering to his friend cut off in the middle. He didn't panic then, though. Not yet. Surely it wouldn't be him, right? These were the types of things that happened to other people, not him. Still, his heart began to beat just a little faster.
When the next paper was pulled and his name was called yet again, he began to feel anxiety spreading through his system. He moved to stand next to his mother, who gripped his hand tightly.
Paper after paper the result was the same. His name had been written on every piece, a unanimous decision–the first ever in history. His own name echoed through his mind.
“Han Jisung.” “Han Jisung.” “Han Jisung.”
He registered the sorrowful cry his mother let out beside him, but it felt far away. His mind had traveled away from his body, to a place where the unthinkable hadn’t just happened.
Or; Han Jisung is selected to be a offering to the terrible beast that resides in the forest.

Summary
"Please," he cried, gasping for air, though he could only breathe in short, shallow breaths. He opened his eyes, finally looking at the face of his captor, and for a moment, everything froze.
The moon-lit face above him was a familiar one. Blood was smeared along a jaw that he knew far too well, more pouring out of a claw mark that freshly broke the honey skin of a strong shoulder. Brown hair that he had fantasized about running his fingers through on multiple occasions was mussed, leaves poking out of it in places.
Warm, dark eyes met his own and Chan's heart skipped a beat. The comforting scent of woodsmoke and honey filled the air around them, and Chan finally relaxed, his heart rate slowing as he breathed in the alpha above him.
"Jisung."
