Sophia and Daniela had been rehearsing for almost two and a half hours. They were tired, and Sophia was getting increasingly stressed.
"Come on, just one more time," Sophia sighed.
"Okay..." she said without much conviction, but when she tried to approach Daniela to continue dancing, she tripped and fell. A long, awkward silence followed.
"I'm not going to make it to opening night," Daniela heard a muffled sob. Sophia lifted her head; her eyes were red and swollen. She was about to cry and quit.
"Wait, Fia…" Dani took her wrist so gently, as if she were holding something very fragile. She didn't realize how close they were; their breaths were warm and slightly rapid.
"Don't give up, not yet... please."

In a soft glow, magenta spilled onto the stage, accompanied by a wave of smoke when the girls were in position. A beautifully smooth voice began to sing in the coloured darkness, enticing and unwavering.
