Summary
The first time Yuutarou played volleyball, the other kids deemed him tall enough to make up for the fact that his team only had five players. Instead of a net, they had two rocks marking either end of an imaginary center line. Rules only ever got enforced at the whim of such a fickle majority.
He couldn’t have known, back then, what he was getting into.

Summary
“I used to play volleyball,” Kousuke tells them. “There were a lot of… occupational hazards. I had my fair share of accidents. I guess I just got a lot better at avoiding them.”
A coworker furrows his brows. “That was in high school?”
“Well, you know teenagers,” he says with a shrug. “Everyone was still learning to control their freakishly long limbs. We made it to Nationals, too, so it’s not like we were just messing around.”
Someone whistles behind him. “That’s pretty cool.”
Kousuke nods sagely. “It sounds way cooler when you don’t know that one of my teammates got his hand stuck in the vending machine right before our third match.”
Kousuke has conquered towers like Tsukishima Kei, Hyakuzawa Yuudai, Hakuba Gao—but he’s since moved on to building them himself brick by brick.

“We’re so late,” Futakuchi laments as he falls into step with Aone. Nametsu is going to have his head. “No one’s ever gonna take me seriously now.”
Aone kicks the side of Futakuchi’s shoe and catches him by the elbow when he trips.
Futakuchi glares at him, yanking his arm away. “Are you trying to make me feel better or worse?”
Aone opens his mouth.
“Don’t answer that.”

“Do you know how many captains I’ve met that quit volleyball after high school?” Tadashi takes a deep breath, throws the ball high, and lets muscle memory seize his limbs.
“How many?” asks Shimada-san.
Tadashi grinds his right shoe against the pavement as he lands and shrugs. “Most of them.” Every night, he whispers their names into a prayer, a confession, a memorial. Volleyball is just a club, life doesn’t end in high school, and other half-truths.
When the spring comes, the cherry blossoms will bloom and it will be beautiful. But it’s winter, still, and the cold bites his fingertips.

Summary
“What do you—“ Yuutarou cuts himself off with a sigh. “You know what? It doesn’t matter. I’ll buy you those pokéballs when we get to Veilstone.”
“If we get to Veilstone,” Akira quips.
Yuutarou huffs. “Sorry for trying to be a nice guy.”
“You should be,” Akira says, taking a stab at the tofu his friend brought him. “Kenma wanted me to check out the Game Corner in Veilstone for him and I told him I’d get back to him today.”
On the way to Veilstone City, Akita and Yuutarou run into an old friend.

The idea of soulmates is a little farfetched, but Matsukawa Issei and Hanamaki Takahiro get pulled into each other's orbit more often than they don't. These are the many ways that they meet for the first time, in this lifetime or another.

There's a certain kind of knowledge you settle into, when you've known someone for over a decade. This far down the line, Rita can't imagine things any other way.

Bookmarker's Notes
This was the first Penumbra Podcast/Juno Steel fic that I read.
My favorite part is the theater scene after their case with the brothers went awry, but Rita confronting Peter Nureyev about his intentions with her boss—and calling Juno part of her family—is a close second. I love Juno and Rita’s friendship so much.

Bookmarker's Notes
I don't tend to read YA anymore. I can't say for sure that if I reread this book that I would still like it, but I remember the feeling well. Noah Sweetwine and this little fic have a special place in my heart—that summary, god, that summary will never not get to me

Summary
Yesterday night, Matsukawa had told his parents that he was joining math club, which lead to several confused smiles from them as they tried to figure out his change of heart.
“Didn’t you say you were allergic to competitive math?” His mom had asked. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, we’re very supportive of your decision, but-”
Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, they’d let it go because no sane parent prevents their child from joining math team, which is intellectually beneficial and looks very nice on college applications. This, in turn, prevents Matsukawa from having to explain that he’s joining- dear god- because of a crush.
