Summary
“You said yes.”
“What?” Jean asks, half in a daze.
Jeremy swallows. “You said yes. To Allison. When she asked if you’re going to marry me.”
This seems to get Jean’s attention. “Of course I said yes.”
“That means you want to,” says Jeremy. “You want to marry me.”
“Jeremy.” Jean is looking at him as if he is stupid. And, well, perhaps Jeremy is a little stupid. “We have been together for eight years.”
Truthfully, Jeremy has been thinking about his and Jean’s wedding since his fifth year at USC.

Summary
Jeremy doesn’t need to know about Jean lying awake for hours every night, missing the heat of his body against him in their bed. He doesn’t need to know about the evenings Jean has spent curled on Cat’s shoulder in the living room, staring aimlessly at the television in front of them without absorbing a single thing. He doesn’t need to know that Jean is dying, slowly, inside, a little bit every day. He doesn’t need to know any of that. And he won’t. Not if Jean can help it.
In Jean's fifth year, Jeremy goes pro in San Francisco. They make it work. They have to.

Summary
Andrew stares blankly down at Neil’s bare fourth finger. Then he looks up at Neil’s scarred face, his deep blue eyes that stand out even against the summer horizon of this godforsaken city, and he wonders yet again if he knows about the ring tucked away in the bottom drawer of the double vanity.
One more surprise, Abram. I think I want to marry you.
Andrew buys a ring. It takes a while before he makes any use of it.
