Ex-frontman Frank Iero is a single dad in New Jersey doing his best to raise his three girls. He meets Ray and Gerard, two dads with sons in the same class as one of his girls. Along with Gerard’s brother Mikey (who is soon to be a dad himself), they make plans to hang out every Friday, asking each other for advice and getting some much-needed adult social interaction. Thus, the Sad Dad Club is born.

Summary
When Frank’s grandmother passes away and leaves him her house back in Jersey, he takes it as a sign that it’s time to move on from fighting the dangerous California wildfires to a municipal crew. After one of the crew members ends up displaced because of an apartment fire, Frank offers up the rest of his house as a temporary living situation. Frank is expecting to end up sharing his space and to feel a little less alone in a house much too big for him— what he isn’t expecting is to find the crew member’s brother so captivating. Despite his hesitation to accept it, Frank has to consider the possibility that maybe he’s found a home worth surviving for.
In which Frank is a firefighter and he ends up being roommates with the Way brothers (including the bright-haired and intense-eyed Gerard). Romance ensues.

Gerard Way is dragging himself through life with no purpose or direction. He still lives at home with his parents and works at his friend’s family’s record shop. When he meets Frank, his life is changed forever, for the better.
Told in alternating chapters from two points of the same timeline, this is the story of Frank and Gerard.
