Summary
Dear Diary,
The River Varg went really fast today. The water dragged all sorts of funny-looking rocks along the bed, so big and ugly I could see them from far away. I could even see them when I was walking back to my governess, along the winding park road that would take me Home. I wanted to run away from her again, to disappear into the water, but I can’t. I’m stuck in this house, stuck being Morrigan Crow. But the sun felt nice on my face, and it was so peaceful. Just for a second, when my governess forgot me and I got so close to the Varg. For a moment, I thought maybe I’m not useless. Maybe the sun thinks I’m okay, even if everyone else doesn’t. I kicked at the wet sand and made little footprints. They washed away almost immediately.
I think that’s what my life feels like sometimes.
Yours forever,
Morrigan.
Or: Morrigan writes nine diary entries, spanning across her ninth year as a Crow and a Cursed Child.

Summary
“The heart wants what the heart wants.”
Cadence huffed, half a laugh, half a scoff. “Your heart is weird.”
Her fingers lingered in Morrigan’s hair for just a moment longer before she drew them back.
“Mm.” Morrigan stretched, letting herself flop sideways into the grass, uneven strands falling across her face. Weird. Sure. She was weird, and that was fine. That was perfectly okay with Morrigan. The sun warmed the nape of her neck. The air moved sharp against her skin. And, for once in her life, Morrigan let herself simply want, and have, and be.
Or: Morrigan cuts off her hair, and she learns to live. Maybe, those two things are connected.
