"Well, if it isn't Kate Anderson, my favorite student!" Cy exclaims as Kate shows up out of the blue in the parking lot of her old high school, one very cold evening.
"And Cyrus Forester, my favorite groomer!" Kate says with the same amount of enthusiasm but way more sarcasm.
"...For how long do you think you're gonna keep making those jokes?" Cy asks, half-amused, half-embarrassed.
"Oh, for as long as I stay in therapy, at the very least." Kate sneers. "Anyway, wanna get Korean barbecue? I've got tons of college drama to tell you about."At the tender age of 14, Kate Anderson, depressed outcast and nerdy goth, starts an affair with her high school Math teacher Cyrus Forester. He is fun, smart, supportive and handsome, everything a teenage girl could ever hope for in a boyfriend. She will spend the next 15 years wrestling with what that relationship means not only to her, but also to all the people trying to convince her she was abused.
