Summary
Ivan is living as an immigrant in the United States during the late 1980s. Leaving his home country, the Russian SFSR, made him feel like a traitor. In the end, it was decided on what would be best for himself and his family.
Just because he wasn’t in the Soviet Union anymore didn’t mean that his trauma wouldn’t follow him across the Atlantic. The tainted memories would pop up above the surface and plague him in the most irregular moments. His past lingered, like the smell of cigar smoke that clung to his father’s suits.
Being an immigrant from a hated country was not helping him heal, in certain areas it hurts him more. Ivan was avoided by most people and called distasteful names for the most part.
However, there is a cheerful American boy Ivan meets in his first period that makes him forget certain worries.
Even if the boy is the most obnoxious person Ivan has ever had a conversation with.
; or teenager Ivan Braginsky learns to love someone romantically.
