Summary
There was a specific kind of noise that belonged exclusively to the living.
It wasn't the screaming of a collapsing battlefield or the rhythmic thud of a failing pulse.
It was the thick, heavy, suffocating warmth of a dozen pro heroes unwinding after a successful raid. Inside the private dining room, the air smelled of roasted beef and spilled sake, vibrating with a loud, unbothered safety.
It was happy loud. The kind of noise that meant you had survived the trenches.
Katsuki sat with his spine perfectly rigid against the backing of the wooden booth, his fingers curled around a glass of water, realizing he couldn't breathe.
The war was over. The dead had been mourned. The living had been celebrated. Everyone around him looked alive.
Katsuki wasn't sure he remembered how.
The world saw heroes who had survived.
Katsuki only saw what the war had left behind.
The aftermath, and all that remained.

Summary
Izuku Midoriya stood battered and broken on Katsuki’s pristine balcony. Dust and dried blood falling off him and settling onto the wooden floorboards. He looked defeated, his usual bright green eyes were dull and empty and his signature Hero Deku smile was nowhere in sight.
Katsuki approached him in much the same way you would a skittish cat, slowly and carefully with your hand outstretched and small soothing sounds leaving your lips without you even realising. When Izuku didn’t move away, he wrapped him in a tight hug, holding the back of Izuku’s head firmly with his hand. He tried to push as much comfort as he could into that signal act, hoping that it would comfort Izuku in any way.
“I didn’t know where else to go,” Izuku whispered, collapsing into Katsuki’s arms, his body shaking with sobs wracking his already worn-out body.
