Summary
As soon as Jack registers that there’s a person-sized shadow huddled on the front steps to his apartment, he knows that it’s Robby. He recognizes the contours of the body backlit by the bulb which illuminates the steps: short hair disarrayed, limned with gold in the light; the line of his throat, starkly pale beside the soft thick darkness of his beard; the defeated slope of his shoulders under the same green long-sleeved shirt he wore during his shift. Jack slows his pace as he approaches. Robby must notice him, the only figure on the empty street, but he doesn’t move.

Summary
Quietly, a soft confession leaves Robby. One that he never imagined admitting to another person before. Especially not to someone who is practically a stranger. “When I was 22, during my first year as an intern, I never thought I’d reach this age. I didn’t even think I’d make it to 23.”
She stays quiet as Robby sits there, staring at his hands.

Summary
"I'm going to miss you, when you leave for your sabbatical."
That's what almost makes Robby break. He laughs softly, awkwardly. His face probably looks flushed. "Brother, I—"
Jack pulls him into a hug, without asking for permission. His face is flushed against Robby's shoulder, probably smushed uncomfortably against the strap of his bag. It takes Robby a moment to realize what is happening, but he hugs back, one hand on Jack's back. His black shirt is sweaty, his back wet and warm, but it only makes him feel more real, human, underneath Robby's hand.
It takes a lot of strength to actually pull back.
or a take on season 2 featuring: robby's real plans for his sabbatical, the donorcycle, an accident, and reaching out for help.

Summary
"You're so used to surviving at a level of distress most people can't even imagine; I don't think you can even fathom not existing in it. It is killing you and you're letting it." Jack waited to catch Robby's gaze. "Are you asking me to watch you die, Misha?"
Robby flinched and averted his gaze further; he felt a surge of all the horrible feelings inside him wash over him, and the monitor's beeping stuttered.
Jack turned inward; he couldn't bear to look at Robby. This is the precipice; the liminal space where Before becomes After. There's no going back. It is out of his control. Robby either jumps off the roof or he doesn't. Robby either lives or doesn't. Then what? Jack relaxed his grip on reality, simply letting it all fall away with his breath.
OR
Robby finally has a breakdown two months after PittFest. Jack fights like hell to keep him safe and out of hospital.

Summary
Spencer isn't sure he ever really knew a time before wanting to die.
Logically he knows there must have been. Children aren't inherently born with that desire. But he can't pinpoint a specific moment where he became aware of it. Where he didn't have the List.
Now it's simply a fact of life. Get up. Go to work. Come home. Consult the List, the Pros and Cons of continued existence. Make coffee. Have dinner. Sleep.
Spencer had always found just enough reasons to keep living, tenuous though they were at times. Then Emily dies.
