Regency England is a delightful place to fall in love, but it is even better when magic is just around the corner.
Elizabeth Bennet is a bright naturalist with a particular interest in making a study of spiders. She studies her spiders happily in Hertfordshire until it is clear someone is trying to attack her. Her brother John Bennet sends her away to his good friend Duke Darcy's estate in Derbyshire. The duke is a cold, forbidding man, who seems to want to remind Elizabeth that she is not allowed in certain spaces in his estate, but she is far too taken by his handsome features to be scared off for long.
Fitzwilliam Matlock, the Duke of Darcy is a man who cannot allow himself to love. His family carries a terrible curse, and he refuses to pass that along to his children. He lives in seclusion in his estate Pemberley, seeking to trouble no one and expecting no one to trouble him. That all changes when he honors a favor for an old friend and opens his house up to a Miss Elizabeth Bennet. She immediately disrupts his peace, and far more disturbing to Duke Darcy, she awakens desire and passion he thought he would never have. Instead of adding Bash to his property title, Gilbert in a bit of a life-crisis mode bequeaths the entirety of the farm to his brother figure, effectively making himself homeless. Luckily, there is a local family who takes boarders, and it’s no trouble on the Cuthberts seeing how fond Marilla was of his father in their youth, so he finds comfort in asking her to take him in.
The only downside is sharing a residence with his academic rival of over 5 years, the ever confusing and infuriating Anne Shirley-Cuthbert, and as they come of age things get… complicated.
(A somewhat re-imagination of season 3, as the divergence would take place the final episode of season 2. Many aspects of season 3 will remain. But mostly slightly aged up AU, in-canon world)
