Summary
Vanessa knows it’s a privilege to watch Daniela soften for the woman she’s decided to spend the rest of her life with and to observe the ease with which Carla loves her in return.
She asks about it, once, about how it feels to love somebody, and she doesn’t know why she wants to know, doesn’t know why it even matters to her, but Carla only pauses the TV and turns to her, aware, too, that Vanessa’s grip is loosening on girlhood, a wisdom in her eyes that says she might know something else, too, that she isn’t letting on.
“I never knew I could love someone like I love Dani,” Carla tells her simply. “And I don’t think I could ever love anyone else.”
“I’d like to love somebody like that,” Vanessa admits. “Do you think I will?”
Carla smiles at her softly. “If you want to, then you will, honey.”
Vanessa takes that and tucks it away.

Summary
Carol returns to Louisiana after time away in space. Time with Maria and Monica always brings comfort and ease but the ever present reality of having to leave again looms too close and too uncomfortable for even the most intimate spaces to hide from it.
“You don’t own anything in this house?” Maria asks as Carol pulls the pants on. She asks the question with a laugh and steps forward to wrap a hand around Carol’s- her sweater.
“Mm,” Carol mumbles and picks at a piece of lint. “If you have any qualms, you’re more than welcome to take it off.” Carol holds her arms up and Maria hums as she leans in to kiss her, her hands slide underneath the sweater and around and up Carol’s back. Carol lowers her arms to Maria’s face and rubs her thumbs over her cheeks just as the kiss breaks.
