They'd gotten back from that first trip to Hamburg, Christ, might've been to the day. He'd gotten Paul on his knees like this in his little bed in Forthlin, just to really hammer in the fact that Paul had chosen him, Paul was his from then on.
That hadn't lasted long, when he'd become Jane's and the world's and then Linda's. But he was always his first, he's always his even when they're an ocean apart and haven't so much as sent a friendly post card in months. And that's something, it's got to be.
December 1974. John, Paul, and Linda meet up.

He finally turns to look at Paul, smiling in a way that’s a bit tighter at the edges than it is when he looks at the others. Paul returns it, flash quick and only half as charming as he is when he’s sober.

Summary
The world spins around him, heavy and thick, sweet like candy floss. “You naughty boy,” he teases, lips splitting into a grin as he turns his head to catch a glimpse of the side of Paul’s face, backlit by the late afternoon sun. Like a halo, because of course he’s that bloody cliche. “You get off on this, don’t you? Doin’ this in public?”
He can almost picture Paul’s blush, that sweet pink rising high on his China doll cheeks. The image has him squirming a bit as Paul rocks against him, setting a slow rhythm that has John biting down on his lip. “Like you weren’t the one to start it,” Paul retorts.

“I took something with John, didn't I?” he muses. He must've, though to tell the truth he can't remember. Maybe John had slipped it under his tongue while they were kissing and he couldn't remember asking. It doesn't… seem like something he'd forget, but he'd had far stranger trips.
The boy leans away from him finally, giving him an unimpressed look that really is far more condescending than he thought. “How should I know that? Haven't done it yet, have I?” he pauses, eyeing Paul up and down. “Do you remember takin’ somethin’ with John?”
Or, Paul isn't Ebenezer Scrooge, and the universe has a twisted sense of humor.

"Paul had shouted at John to go fuck himself. Told John he didn’t get to order him around. But he’d showed the next day. Head held high, acting like he’d come of his own accord. Only John could see him limping with his tail between his legs. Singing a song of ruin.
John’s band is going to the top, and if Paul wants in, he’s got to pull his weight. That’s all there is to it."
