"We've all noticed, Parrot. You're falling apart."
He doesn't say anything. He simply picks up his mug and takes a sip, letting the words steep in the darkness between them. It seems as though Parrot had given up all of the anger and disappointment Leo was expecting to see. There was no fight left in the bird to even pretend to be angry; instead, letting the exhaustion rise to the surface like a rotting fish with nowhere else to go.

Parrot tries moving forward without acknowledging any of the terrible things that have happened. Leaving him suffocating in guilt and grief that snowballs until he can't outrun it. -

Derek had never meant to lie to Avery.
Avery had spent 2 months nursing him back to health, and it just felt wrong to tell him that it was all for nothing.
That the King had awakened and was now whispering in Derek's ears, but that's all it was, just a voice.
It wasn't going to get any worse, so really..Derek was just protecting Avery... Right?
OR:
The King comes back to haunt Derek, and he is too scared to tell Avery, which would shatter the fragile bubble of peace they had worked so hard to create. So, he suppresses the urge to tell Avery until it leaks out the sides.
