The daring dart of his eyes and the constant motion of his lips- Fyodor postulated his clandestine friend was inhuman- devoid of any Gospel and unforgiving to a theocratic kingdom. His ideals were long begone, and upon that notion, the individual experienced a minuscule yet meaningful epiphany.
Nikolai was the key, and the concept of a key alluded to the idea of a door. Hadn't that door opened and closed depending on Nikolai's presence? His smile was the knock at the door. His laugh was the twisting of the key. His kiss was the invitation inside. And his goodbye was the sound of slamming shut.
