Summary
Jin Guangyao runs his fingertips along the pristine line of Lan Xichen’s throat and watches Lan Xichen’s pupils contract at the slow, intimate slide of skin against skin.
“Give me your forehead ribbon,” he commands, and it’s such a brazen request it makes him dizzy, but Lan Xichen does it. He undoes the ribbon, then places it in Jin Guangyao’s outstretched palm. Jin Guangyao’s fingers close over it, and it feels like a promise.
He leans in. Lan Xichen doesn’t lean away. Lan Xichen permits Jin Guangyao to put his filthy mouth on Lan Xichen’s lips and kiss him.

Summary
To anyone else Lan Xichen might have appeared the picture of serenity, but Lan Wangji can see all too easily how bone-white he is, how his bloodstained fingers tremble where they lay on his knees, how unsteady his breathing remains.
Lan Xichen had been Lan Wangji's rock when he'd needed it most, when his world crumbled to ash around him and he struggled to find any reason to continue drawing breath in a world that had, for him, lost its light. It's only now that he's starting to understand the staggering weight of that responsibility.
After returning to Cloud Recesses, Lan Wangji attempts to shield his brother from some of the consequences of his actions. Unfortunately, things are rarely so simple.

Summary
In short, it's hard to believe that any man is as truly good as Lan Xichen seems to be. He's not utterly guileless, of course — he's too good at politics for that — but the fact that he's never shown a selfish impulse makes Jin Guangyao uneasy. He can't be as upright and honorable as he seems, not deep down.
And so, he thinks, with equal parts guilt and satisfaction, his plan will accomplish two things at once. He will help Lan Xichen relax while working to discern what it is he truly wants, what character flaws he hides so thoroughly that even Jin Guangyao's sharp eyes have not been able to pick them out.
Lan Xichen has a drink to unwind, and then Jin Guangyao has a hard time keeping up - in more ways than one.

(If Sizhui has a habit of going to the kitchens, you suppose it would not have been difficult for him to find out which servants were tasked with delivering your meals and later returning for the dishes, and then to learn that they regularly brought back food that was either barely eaten or entirely untouched.)
