"I locked my phone, and stared up at my ceiling, my breaths getting shaky. Tears started to well in my eyes, but I didn’t dare let them fall. I breathed heavy and deep, attempting to calm myself down and not cry over this. Over him. I couldn’t let myself be humiliated by Harry Styles yet again, in 2021. 11 years after it all began, and this is what I had been reduced to. Googling my ex in my dark hotel suite alone, still fighting with the same woman as always, still living in the shadow of my past as always, and still hating myself as always.
There Harry was, living as himself. Proudly. Boldly. Some respected him for it, and some didn’t. Yet there he was. Part of me barely recognized him at all, disassociating who I saw on the screen from who I once knew– from who I once held, once touched, once felt.
But every now and again, when I would watch Harry perform, I would catch a small glimpse of him. Not Harry Styles, the famous musician, but Harry, the boy I once knew so intimately.
My tears finally fell."How do two people go from strangers, to friends, to lovers, then back to strangers again? And what happens if the whole world watches them do it?

"Eddie gently placed his hand on Richie’s, stopping him. “Listen, Rich, I’m not trying to be a dick but alcohol can damage your liver and–”
Richie met Eddie’s eyes, and Eddie swore for a moment he saw something flicker in Richie’s eyes, but couldn’t quite place the emotion. It stunned Eddie to silence.
There was a pause. Then, Richie stated just loud enough for Eddie to hear above the noisy crowd, “I love the way you care about me,” Another hiccup. “About everyone… You’re so…” Richie trailed off as he put the shot glass down on the table, opting to hold Eddie’s hand instead, “Sweet.” He said the last part so quiet Eddie wasn’t sure if he heard him correctly. Maybe he was just imagining things."...
Or: 5 times Richie drunkenly confesses to his feelings for Eddie, and the 1 time that the two confront their feelings sober.

Stern shoulders sag with a newfound gentleness, Eddie’s arms falling to his sides. It almost feels like pity, lethal and molten, until he speaks. “They just give up?”
or: richie and sex have never gotten along. no matter how much he wants it, he can never let his guard down enough to enjoy it. eddie throws his hat in the ring.
