In Shuuichi's experience, ice cream parlors tended to have the tamer customers, even if most of their consumer base was screaming children and their parents. That meant monotonous days of making the same order over and over again and days where he would spend every hour of his shift weighed down by boredom. For the longest time, he thought that would never change.

Summary
Frowning, but not wanting to startle him into losing a pinky, Shuichi remains silent, leaning against the fridge and folding his arms. Kokichi is singing the familiar song under his breath, more hums than words, his eyes half-lidded with concentration. It’s hard to say whether he’s noticed Shuichi or not until he’s heaving a sigh and tossing the blade aside, putting his arms out without looking Shuichi’s direction.
Shuichi obliges him, but frowns at where the knife is lying on the carpet. “We need to put that away before we go back to bed,” he points out, tucking Kokichi into his chest. Kokichi is short enough that his head can fit snug right under Shuichi’s chin, and he takes advantage of it, cosying up in his arms and pressing his eyes in against Shuichi’s shoulder.
“You know, that sounds like a you problem, Shu-chan.”
“It’ll be a both of us problem if you step on it and need to go to the emergency room.”

“Whatever you need, Ouma-kun. If it isn’t too much trouble… I can send you my location. My car broke down and if you could come pick me up…”
Ouma scratches his cheek as he picks a pair of pants off the floor of his room, sniffs them, and decides they’re suitable. What is Saihara doing out at this hour, anyway? Working a case, maybe? But he’s not really the type to run off and confront a culprit directly. Saihara is a strong proponent of leaving that kind of work to the professionals. Beyond that, he sounds upset, like something must have happened… Maybe he and his uncle had a fight. What a lousy time for his car to break down.
“Sure, sure! You’ll cover my gas, won’t you?”
“A-Ah, of course, Ouma-kun,” Saihara stutters, “I’m sorry for the tr—”
“Hey,” Ouma interrupts. “That was a lie. I’m not going to make you pay me back. Sit tight, okay? I’ll be right there.”

A late night call sends Ouma out on a "rescue mission". The hardest part of it is ignoring his feelings for the rescuee.
