Summary
She quite liked his sugar-white hair and long eyelashes and his funny little smile. She liked his fancy earrings and gentle accent. She liked how he floated, like the balloons they would send up over the rooftops of Nicodranas at every new year festival.
Jester frowned at Essek. Confused, Essek frowned back.
“Is something wrong?” he asked.
“Your earrings, Essek!” exclaimed Jester, distraught. “Where’d they go?”Jester and Essek have a conversation about jewellery in the frozen North.

Summary
I did not think it would be like this, he wishes he had words to say. I wish I could regrow myself like one of Caduceus’s plant experiments, but I think my roots are rotten through. No sunlight and no water and no Uthodorn cupcakes can treat the blight he has made of himself. He has two words. He would need so many.
-In Aeor, just the two of them, there are many things to finally resolve. Not least of all the question of what they could be to one another.Bookmarked by neriart

Summary
It is a mild night in Nicodranas, and Veth is considering slamming the door in Essek’s face.
He’s wearing a Disguise that she hasn’t seen before and an expression that warns of future vomit. He says, shivering, “Um. Hello. Please help me?”
Veth, who is beginning to wish that she hadn’t answered the door in her skimpiest robe, attempts to surreptitiously cross her arms over her cleavage. She says, remarkably pleasantly, “Are you fucking insane?”

Summary
"I imagine you're all reading this together, because I know your group doesn't practice privacy. I do not know what I'm offering. My honesty? What is that worth? My secrets are not things I can—or should—write about in a letter, but seeing you in person feels too dangerous. Your safety means the world to me, and I wouldn't be able to deal with myself if you became enemies of the Dynasty because of my actions.
I don't know what the purpose of this letter is, I suppose. I just wanted to clear any misunderstandings I might have created with the kindest people I have ever known.
Essek."Essek sends a letter apologising. It starts something.

Summary
Ryuki’s heart rabbited in his chest as his stomach curdled. He’d been here before, a thousand times. The dark cathedral, fear alive in his body, so thick and cloying he choked on it. Date looking at him calmly through the mask.
“Drop the gun,” the man repeated, annoyed this time. “And kick it to me.”
Ryuki sent Date one last, hopeless glance, then clicked the safety on, dropped the gun, and kicked it.
It skidded forward a measly two feet.
Into the baffled silence, Ryuki said, “Um. Should I kick it again, or—?”
