But I think the worse part of it all might also be having to see their families faces when they find out their loved one isn’t gonna be alright.”
“There’s a reason I’m in surgery.” Dr. Park told her blankly.
“Yeah, I suppose you don’t see too many crying faces in the OR do you?”
“Typically people can’t cry when under anesthesia.”
Emma couldn’t help the snort that came out of her mouth at that. Looking up at the attending she told him, “You’re pretty funny, Dr. Park. Has anyone told you that?”
“Mhm.” he hummed, not giving her anything else.

Summary
Emma Nolan is a few months into her nursing career, still learning how to keep up, keep quiet, and survive under the pressure of a hospital that never slows down. Dr. Brendon Park doesn’t make room for learning curves. He’s precise, controlled, and unshakable. At least...he was.
Because Emma doesn’t respond the way she’s supposed to. She doesn’t fold under pressure. Doesn’t back down when he pushes and the more she surprises him, the more he starts to notice. Once Park notices something… he doesn’t let it go.
What starts as tension turns into something far more dangerous: blurred lines, quiet power struggles, and a connection neither of them are willing to name.

“What, um,” she swallows and pushes her braid back over her shoulder with her other hand, “what are you doing?” Her voice wavers, and she hates that he might hear it. Hates that he might be able to read her mind—she’s never been good at hiding her emotions, they’re always painted plainly on her face.
“One, I need to hold onto something,” he explains, leaving no room for questions, “and two, I don’t want you to jump away from me while you help.”
“Help?” Emma slowly raises her eyes to meet his.
“Yes, help,” he says flatly, blue eyes boring into hers so intensely she’s sure he can tell what she’s thinking. “I can’t suture with one hand. I need you to be the other one.”
“I–I’m not sure I’m the best person for this,” she glances over her shoulder, looking to signal Donnie or someone who’s actually good at sutures. Her brain scrambles for an out, something to ground herself, to slow this down. “I’ve barely been here a month and—”
“And I’ve been doing this for twenty years, so you’ll be safe with me.”
