Summary
I found this WIP from *2011* in my folders and can barely recall even writing it. I can also remember how starved I was for more Cherik content, which might explain this after all.

Smiley Yanxiao growled over the green onions he was chopping at the sound of a step on the stairs. There was only one person he knew of who was likely to barge into the kitchen during dinner prep. “What now?” he snapped, glancing over his shoulder and expecting to see the Traveller’s slight, blonde form.
The rest of his outburst died unsaid as he blinked. Frozen on the stairs, Jiangxue smiled sheepishly as he held out a large black bass. The tall, scruffy fisherman looked as unshaven as ever, his lanky hair falling uncombed against his cheeks and neck. The old jacket and pants he wore were haphazardly patched, with a sword in a plain scabbard hung at his hip that Yanxiao had never seen him use. “A fish,” Jiangxue said.

I got hypothermia.” Wei Ying says all of this with the same easy demeanor that he uses when he tells playground stories about Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli, like he’s not discussing trauma. “When you get hypothermia once you’re more susceptible to it in the future, which is a fun side effect.” He shrugs and kisses Lan Zhan’s neck with lips that are still cold but not horribly so. “I just get cold easy now. I’m used to it.”
“Mn,” Lan Zhan says, and means, “We’ll fucking see about that.”
Or: Wei Ying is not allowed to be cold, therefore Lan Zhan must learn to knit.

Summary
Sleep lacked for nothing. He had a fulfilling job, a kind but strict boss, a soft bed waiting for him on his days off, at least one friend in the form of the realm’s rebellious prince, a friendly relationship with the realm’s most beautiful and commanding fury, and a brother who cared enough to visit once in a while. Realistically, he had everything he could ask for. Yet, as he thickened the lines of a bat he had just sketched into the decorative border he was constructing, his mind drifted to the last dream he had traveled in. The warmth of the fire and the loving gaze of the mother as she looked upon her sons.
He remembered the mortal mother’s eyes and his heart ached. He tried to imagine Thanatos laughing with him, but the image left him empty.
At the end of his shift a strange voice called out to him, beckoning him to the elder sigil in the back of the administrative chamber. Perhaps his extended family could help him find what was missing.

Summary
Thanatos thinks he's fine with it, with Zagreus and their little one bedroom apartment and slaving away at his nine-to-five to make ends meet; but a chance encounter with a handsome stranger leaves him questioning whether or not he's truly happy with the way things are.
Zagreus is as understanding of his boyfriend as he can be, but Thanatos is just never around anymore. He finds a confidant in Hypnos, and as things progress, he's forced to reevaluate the bonds he shares with both brothers.
