Usually when he reached for his magic on Eternia, for the flowing energy around him, he brought something back crooked, sideways, backwards, and used it anyway, forced a triangle block into a round hole until it fit. But it had never hurt before. Now, whenever he scraped for something within him, he could feel it being emptied out, and he felt heavier and heavier with every minute, even as he discarded various trinkets along their path as they fell from his sleeves and hat. It had never stung when magic flowed from his fingers, had never burned when he reached outside of himself, desperately clawing for more, and was harshly rejected.
