Suho looks down at his hands, knotted and white-knuckled in his lap, inspects the fraying edges of the Pokémon bandage Seojun had wrapped around his thumb when he’d cut himself making dinner the other night.
“It’s cute isn’t it?” he’d said, poking the nose of the little yellow … mouse? and irritating Suho’s cut in the process. “Jugyeong likes these. She can’t name a single one besides Pikachu, but she insists she knows all of them.”
Suho thinks about the box of bandaids Jugyeong keeps in the top drawer of her desk, patterned with strawberries because that had always been their thing. A physical piece of the love they’d built between them as though she’d needed to prove it to herself, that Lee Suho and Lim Jugyeong were meant for eternity.
She’s right, he decides. They’re not.

There’s the soft, muted pop of a silencer, familiar and alien at the same time, and then Lu Yao staggers, eyes wide, back hitting the car with a thump Qiao Chusheng feels more than hears. He grabs Lu Yao by the shoulders, to soften his fall, and then by the wrist, thumb pressing roughly against the soft skin there, searching and praying for a sign.

Qiao Chusheng has always been good at hiding. He had to be if he wanted to stay alive. At the start, Lu Yao let him get away with it, pretended that he couldn’t see it at all, couldn’t see the tension slipping up Chusheng’s spine, couldn’t see the extra layer of stillness that settled over him when the case was darker than usual, or the balance he had to strike between the law and the gang was particularly delicate, or when something just went a bit off track in his brain.
On those days now, Lu Yao knows he’s needed.

Summary
Lu Yao complains and gasps and whines, but eventually settles into letting Qiao Chusheng clean the wound. It doesn’t take that long, but something about the process- about the slow, meditative pass of the cloth, the warmth of the water, the clean smell of fresh blood- is familiar; soothing to Qiao Chusheng. He’s done this many times before: for himself, for others. He likes doing it for Lu Yao better, though. Would have preferred if he weren’t injured at all- but he likes being here, kneeling between his legs and taking care of him. Is glad that he’s the one to do it.
