And there is no point thinking about it anyway, because although witchers don’t age, humans certainly do, and after more than seven hundred years, Jaskier is long dead. Which is why it takes him so off guard to find him in the dorm room of a particularly incompetent mage.

Count de Lettenhove met a witch. That was how Jaskier’s story started—the Count being his father, of course. The Count was in the forest, near a swamp, holding a bow and arrow, when he stumbled across the witch. She was ugly, face twisted, as she popped out of thin air.
“You.”
What was supposed to be an average hunt—just for fun, as the Count hardly needed to hunt for survival—would soon be remembered as the beginning of a nightmare.

It’s during an upbeat evening on his second night with a rowdy crowd that the unexpected happens. The door to the tavern bangs open, hitting the wall with a crack, and in staggers a sopping wet figure with two sword hilts poking over his shoulder and the head of a royal wyvern clutched in his fist.
“Killed your dragon,” the figure rasps, and if his silhouette in the doorway wasn’t enough to give him away, Jaskier would recognize that rough voice anywhere.
