Charles wonders if he should be concerned that Edwin’s more willing to take a swing at him after his confession of love. Or come at him with sharp objects.

(or, Charles and Edwin engage in mutual education and Charles is still confused until he isn’t.)

There is a boy in the box.

To be specific, and Edwin has always found comfort in specificity, there are parts of a boy in the box.

A fic about Edwin learning the hard way that he's no longer in survival mode.

It's taken literal Hell for Charles to realise that actually, when he told Edwin that he loved him in 1989, he might not have been joking after all. As the demon rushes up towards them, Charles turns on his heels, takes a step down, and kisses Edwin hard and quick.

Or: an exploration of Charles' easy "love you too" in Hell.

The thing is, if Charles had simply been there with Edwin, in Port Townsend, and he’d been faster, and better at his damned job, Edwin wouldn’t have had to go through all that shit again, and Niko wouldn't be dead. So now they’re back in London and there’s no immediate danger lurking, but Charles still feels like there is, all the time.

He once said all he needed to be okay was his best mate and a case, and he hadn’t been lying when he said it.

But if he’d known it would take only one case for everything to unravel in his hands, he would’ve wished for something else.

Or: the Case of The Serpent in the Cemetery

For all that Edwin might have resented it, Crystal’s logic was sound. He had over a century’s worth of demonic possession under his belt, and had not— as yet— perished, or utterly lost his mind. If you asked Edwin, this was all due to a technicality. If you asked Crystal, it was due to Edwin being the most miserably stubborn bastard ever to walk the earth. If you asked Charles, he’d probably go all misty-eyed and start talking about Edwin’s tenacity, or some such nonsense, which was why Charles was under no circumstances to be told about the plan.
