Summary
“I don’t like to talk about it, about that night. I don’t even like thinking about it. But I could tell you about her. My wife. She was very brave. [...] The nightmares… they never really go away, but they get rarer, and it gets better. Eventually, you can live with it. The loss. After that, you have to make a choice. Move on,” she finally looks at Spooner, “and you should move on,” she makes it clear she means it. “Or, make them pay.”
Sara has made her choice long before. She fosters it, nurtures it, that feeling in the pit of her stomach. The rage. The vengeance. The bloodthirst. She cares for it like an old friend, it stands beside her through everything, it guides her and drives her more than anything else.
Everything else that once took space in her has been consumed by it.//
Or, Sara loses her wife, and decides she would gladly burn the world to the ground to avenge her. A dangerous path, with very steep costs - one of which may be losing her all over again.
Or: The Girls vs The Justice League (The Boys AU)
(Edit, because a few people have mentioned to me not reading because of it: the Major Character Death warning isn't for Ava/Sara)

Summary
The thing about habitat conservation was that it focussed, primarily, on time. To most people it was a study of nature and animals and how to ensure ecological populations thrived, and that was true to an extent. But at the heart of it all was the ever-present tick of the clock, the forward momentum of the universe, the steady increase in entropy as years passed by. She spent every day of her life following trajectories and mapping changes, one eye on the past and one on the future, so she ought to have seen this moment coming. And yet, somehow, she just… hadn’t.
or, a 'childhood best friends' to 'not quite exes' to 'PhD students on the same course' to 'house mates' to lovers au. with side helpings of vox machina found family, making peace with the past, and finding your place in the world.

Summary
“She’s not my girlfriend,” Greta hisses, even as she watches the game, watches Carson leading off second base, the focus in her jawline, the flex of her calves, that stupid cap on her head.
“Oh really?” Maybelle leans over Jess. “Then why are you drooling?”
Greta’s face goes hot. “I’m not fucking drooling!” she hisses. “Carson and I work together.”
“Yeah, I’m sure you do lots of things together,” Jess quips, proud of themself.
Swallowing hard, Greta steels her resolve. They’re getting too close to the truth. She has to remember the rules she and Carson drew up in the back of class once – they should have been taking notes, but Carson’s hand was on her knee, her thumb drawing circles, so she spent most of class just doing her best to keep a clear head.
“Really, Carson and I are just friends,” she says, firm. “She has a boyfriend.” And that part is true at least. Carson isn’t her girlfriend; that’s Greta’s entire problem.
(Or, a modern-take on the affair and how it might play out if they were allowed more choices, for better or for worse. The one where they're in college, they're co-workers, they can't keep their hands off each other + they just really need to get their shit together.)

They're super spies, so they're exceptionally good at lying. Especially to themselves.

Youssef Farouk really didn't want to chaperone this school trip to Paris.
In fact, he almost said no.
~
Yes, I have fallen in love with another minor side pairing. Yes, I have written 50,000 words about them. No, I regret nothing.
