Ryoji—the name drips off Minato’s tongue in his slumber. It follows him to reality, down the jagged pavements, when he repeats the name after each step he takes. Ryoji… Ryoji… the boy with a complexion akin to snow, despite the number of hours he claimed to spend in the sun. Ryoji, who made way for new beginnings in each month. Minato found himself looking to the moon each night, whispering the deity's chosen name like a sacred prayer, waiting for a sign from the other gods.

If it weren’t for the slow and methodical rise and fall of his chest, Jin’s sleeping form would resemble that of a corpse.
The room is silent, almost unnervingly so. Sunlight flickers through half-drawn curtains, strips of golden washing over beige walls and dust covered bedposts. Takaya sits upright, heaving shallow breaths in the stillness of the morning. His chest aches, paired with a dull soreness that works its way under his skin and clings incessantly to his bones. Exhaustion is embedded within him, a permanent fixture in his decaying body.
Decaying or not, this is the vessel that’s been molded for him, and there is no point in sitting and festering on the matter.

“Is summer nice?” Ryoji asked after a beat, and it made Minato blink at him. Ryoji wondered if his question had been too abrupt, but Minato seemed to consider it anyway, brow furrowing in consideration.
“It depends,” Minato said eventually, slowly, and Ryoji hung on to each syllable with care, “on whether you like it warm.”
