Summary
Everyone knows that the Gaunt family is practically inbred, what with their family bloodline being prioritized over the health of heirs. Ominis Gaunt's parents, Noctis and Imperia, were cousins. That was no secret. But neither were their children's faults. Marvolo was ugly as he was cruel, and Morfin couldn't tell the difference between a cup and a cauldron. Delfinia was somewhat better looking, but not stunning. She hid in the background of the family estate, biding her time till an arranged marriage stole her away. Ominis was born blind, that much they could not control, but they did torment him for it. However, there was a fifth, with a trait so betraying that even the Gaunt's couldn't imagine a line so "pure" as theirs could create. A girl, twin to Ominis, without so much a drop of magic in her blood. A Squib. Such a child was a stain on the family tree, and so when it was found that the girl never received her Hogwarts letter, she was sent to live with her ghastly grandmother. The Gaunts hoped the girl would waste away along with the poor old woman.
Ophelia Gaunt recalled that day as clearly as she could see her own hands in front of her.

Summary

No, no. It was one thing for Sebastian to call her a friend in passing. To explain it away because there was simply no concise word to describe the awkward purgatory between friendship and undying devotion. But to excuse this miserable pining under the guise of friendship? Come on. That would be making a mockery of his intelligence.
Dubiously, Sebastian replied, “You say it like that’s news to you.”
“Well, that’s because it is.” Ominis said pointedly, “Friends don’t look at each other like that.”
