"Oh fuck," Osha whimpers, locking eyes with the handsome GSI. It's the stranger. He's wearing glasses now. He wasn't wearing glasses before, but they accentuate his carved jawline. His tan has darkened to an even deeper shade of gold.
She has a sense-memory of his hot skin under her fingers, the lack of any tan lines, the faint line of hair disappearing into his briefs, the play of muscles on his firm back in the mirror-

Osha ignores the hands that graze an inch too close to her in the hallway. She pretends she can’t feel the eyes that crawl up the stretch of back she’s left free of her dress. She absolutely does not look at the way his lips seal around a soup spoon across the dinner table. (She can’t be the only one who thinks the way he tongues the prongs of his fork is a bit excessive.)
Osha tells herself she can soothe the goosebumps trickling down her arms; the drumming in her chest is just stress. She can count the days between now and her wedding on her fingers, and it’s making her nervous is all.
It has absolutely nothing to do with her soon-to-be brother-in-law, Qimir.

“I can see your artistic voice starting to emerge.” He’s quiet for a while, considering. “But you’re still holding back, like with your landscape. I can feel your creativity, your enjoyment of the medium, but it’s missing something deeper.”
Osha’s heart rate picks up speed. The problem is that her most overwhelming emotions are all dangerous. “Maybe I just can’t go deeper.”
“Can’t? Or don’t want to?” Qimir turns from her painting, looking down at her. His dark eyes pierce into hers, full of understanding, perceiving her to a degree that leaves her aching. “What are you so afraid of?”

But when she needs an elective to round out her coursework for the semester, Mae convinces her to join Intro to Studio Painting. There she encounters Professor Qimir Stranger, who turns her whole world upside down.
