Summary
Akito lingers in the hallway for a moment, contemplating sitting down outside and not facing Toya at all. But, what was his partner here for? Him, of course. He has to go in. The sweater clings onto his damp skin as he pushes open the door to the bedroom, and that sweet, sweet face greets him.
“Hi,” Toya greets, patting the spot beside him. He gently slides in a post-it note to the book resting between his hands, using it as a bookmark. “Took you a bit, I was starting to get worried.”
“I was just…” He breathes out, sitting in the spot offered to him, “caught up in my head.” Not a total lie.
His partner’s face twists into a slight frown, shifting down in the bed. “Are you okay, Akito?” He hovers a hand over Akito’s lap, “you’re shaking.”

Toya groans, but reluctantly nods nonetheless. “Mm. Carry me then.”

There’s voices in the distance, turning the corner as all the cats scatter away in fear. He shoves his face back in the book—they’ll pass, Akito will come, and they can go home. He really wants those guys to pass.
Vivid Street at the dead of night with no events happening felt like bad news to Toya. Yes, it was fiction, but the book in his hands only just finished up a scene of a murder investigation in a dark, back alleyway in the dead of night.
(Something in him wants to flip to the first page just to double check if there was a note reading; All events are based on true stories. But he’s… sure there isn’t.)
