This was far from the first time. But it was the first time that he had never gotten a message back eventually, after some matter of minutes, or maybe hours, depending on the day. Always chiding him for calling so incessantly, like a child clinging onto his leg. But always letting him do it, again and again, and only asking what was wrong.
