Summary
Janson turns to watch Chief Komad work and leans a shoulder against a crate. “It doesn’t really change who you are, that tip from theoretical to reality,” he says almost idly. “But your first kill can change your perspective on yourself. It can be uncomfortable.”
If he only knew the extent of Lara’s recent changes in perspective! She wishes she fully understood the boundaries of them herself.
“It is a little confusing,” Lara admits, voice slightly stifled from an effort not to laugh. Or maybe scream.
After her first battle as a Wraith, Flight Officer Lara Notsil has a disconcerting conversation about first kills and kill silhouettes with her new executive officer.Set during chapter 9 of Iron Fist.

Summary
“I know you, Wes. You’re not a murderer.”
“Some of the things we’ve done, that I’ve done, for the Alliance and the New Republic, have come close, don’t you think?”
“No. We’re soldiers, Wes, not murderers. We’ve never killed where we haven’t had to, without good reason.” He’s always clung to this; on the dark nights before he’d defected, terrified he was as bad as the worst of the Empire; after missions for the Rebellion that went to hell and they’d come close to things he fears would be unforgivable. He’s always believed it. He has to believe it.
Wes finally looks up at him and Hobbie sees hollow exhaustion in his eyes. “I bet murderers think they have good reasons too.”
After disasters at Jussafet and Kidriff see Rogues and Wraiths targeting their own and the lines between enemy and ally blur, Wes and Hobbie must confront long-buried secrets, the ongoing emotional fallout from Talon Squadron’s demise and the painful truth that the hardest person to forgive is yourself.
Set during the second half of Solo Command.

Summary
Soontir has studied the Rogues as opponents but he does not yet know what to make of them as colleagues. They lack… not discipline precisely. In battle they fight with the mix of rigid discipline and unpredictable chaos to be expected of the elite unit the Rebels— the New Republic —bills them as. Otherwise Antilles’ pilots display a casual disregard for structure and hierarchy that is unsettlingly reminiscent of the 181st when Soontir had first arrived.
Antilles does not resemble his sister, Klivian and Celchu have grown into seasoned soldiers rather than the green cadets he had trained, and Janson is more complicated than his Imperial intelligence file would suggest.
In short, upon his defection to the New Republic, Soontir Fel finds that Rogue Squadron is not entirely what he expected.
Set at the start of the Family Ties run of the X-wing: Rogue Squadron comics (issues 26-27), right after the end of In the Empire’s Service and The Making of Baron Fel (issues 21-24 and 25).

Summary
Wedge barely glances up from his datapad as Tycho walks into his office. He looks pale and drawn in a way that speaks of lack of sleep and makes Tycho’s heart ache for him.
“Tycho, good. I’m looking at how we organise the squadron with nine pilots. Give me your opinion. If I put Hobbie in charge of Two Flight and bring Nrin into One Flight with us-”
"You can’t make Hobbie replace Wes,” Tycho interrupts. “It would be unkind.”
Wedge looks up, his expression bleak. “I don’t have the luxury of kind right now.”
Tycho fights the urge to either yell at him or hug him and manages bluntness as an unsatisfying compromise. “Well then you probably won’t have the luxury of a functioning flight leader either.”
Losing Wes is hard on them all. In the aftermath of the battle at Distna Tycho refuses to let his surviving friends lose each other as well.
Set during Isard’s Revenge, somewhere in the vicinity of chapter 25.

The damage done by panamdea
Fandom: Star Wars Legends: X-Wing Series - Aaron Allston & Michael Stackpole
16 Sep 2025
Summary
Wes Janson’s subordinates in Wraith Squadron include the namesake of the older-brother figure who died in his place at the Battle of Yavin, the possibly vengeful son of the squadmate who was the first person he killed, the sole survivor of a squadron he trained and lost, and the woman who wiped them out. He’s not having the best few months of his life.
Or; Wes’ backstory exists almost entirely to give Kell and Myn trauma in the Wraith Squadron books. What if he got to have his own? And while Hobbie doesn’t really get backstory in the Wraith series he has plenty enough from Darklighter to be having a bad time after the death of the Talons too.
