Mike pulls him toward his chest and this time, Will lets himself be held again.
“You’re okay.”
Will closes his eyes, the comfort of his best friend overtaking him in rapid succession, he feels himself drifting off, Mike’s words of reassurance gently whisking him off to sleep.
“I’ve got you,” he hears, almost unconscious when the faint words barely register-
“I’ve got you, baby.”
Or,
Mike has started calling Will ‘baby’ and it’s driving him crazy.

Slowly, he dropped to his knees in front of Will.
The lightbulb above them flared with an intense, blinding brightness before bursting with a sharp pop.

“The level of detail…”
Will’s brain almost shuts down, he’s not sure how to handle the tenderness of Mike's movements or the fondness with which his words fall out of his mouth.
He had been so focused on simply transforming his heart’s whims into paint that he never stopped to think about the consequences of that transformation, the vulnerability in someone inspecting it, in feeling it.
And now Mike was doing exactly that, and had been doing that—unannounced to Will—the entire time.
His finger trails down the tip of his sword, tracing along the shield, caressing the heart, “You put so much into this.”
Will wants to reach out and take his finger and press it into his chest so that it might sink past his ribs, and Mike could use his gentleness to trace the lining of his heart.

“Woah- Will.” He jumped to his feet, stumbling to look over Will’s shaking shoulder at the now smeared surface. “Shit… this is really…”
“Sad…” “Poignant…”
They spoke at the same time, Will turning to Mike with a confused crinkle on his nose bridge.
“English major.” Will huffed with a weary grin, his hazel eyes flicking across Mike’s speckled face. “You’re so pretentious.” He teased, jabbing the taller man’s chest. A smile passed between them, the room suddenly very warm.
“Will- You know you could’ve just asked me to model for you right?”
“Yeah I know…”
“...But?”
“...But…” Will had started to dip his brushes into the stained cup of murky water. “I need my model to be-” He’d posed for Will in the past, it wasn’t something new. “I need a nude model.”

Two minutes later, Mike finally returned.
“Dude, we finally met your twin!” Lucas excitedly said, while Mike was adjusting himself to fit on the bed next to his friend.
Will, who was sitting on the ground, followed the conversation. “Yeah, he was… nice,” his voice was soft and there was a hint of nervousness in it.
“Will, I think he wanted to fuck you, to be honest,” Lucas abruptly said, being driven by his instinct. Something in the air was definitely weird when they interacted.
Mike scoffed, “well, that makes sense,” he wasn't looking back to his friends. “He is gay, so,” he shrugged.
“He is?” Will said, with a too excited tone. Hopeful, even.
“Yep.” Mike confirmed. No eye contact.-
OR
Mike makes up an identical twin that has never existed named Richie just so he can finally flirt with Will without any consequences. Or at least that's what he thinks.
