Summary
The sigil-erasing gauntlet sits heavy in Hunter’s hands, deaf to his commands. “Ugh! Do you come with an instruction manual or something?”
“It does, actually,” the floor says helpfully. “Would you like to see it?”
Hunter shrieks because floors should not speak. The floor—or, more precisely, the abomination goo puddled on it—then begins to coalesce into a familiar shape. Mere seconds later, Darius Fucking Deamonne stands in front of Hunter with one hip cocked to the side and an imperious eyebrow arched. All of that would be very intimidating, if it weren’t for the fact that he’s also wearing a lavender bathrobe and fuzzy cat-shaped slippers.
“A little late for visitors, isn’t it, princeling mine?”
[Or: Hunter commits burglary, gets a tattoo, and extorts a world leader.]

Summary
“There’s four of them—fight, flight, freeze, and fawn," Hunter explains. "My therapist wanted me to write about some times when I felt like I reacted each of those ways.”
“And you’re having trouble thinking of some?” Luz asks, propping her feet in his lap.
“It’s not that I can’t think of any,” Hunter says, cradling his journal. He rubs the soft leather cover, grazing his fingers over the bumps of the many vinyl stickers Luz has given him. “It’s that I’m thinking of too many.”
“Oh.”
[Or: Hunter, homework, and some really rather horrible memories.]

Summary
[Luz’s fingers slip underneath his collar, and he freezes.
“We’ll just take this off and have Eda wash it,” Luz says, unbuckling the collar and pulling it away from his neck. “Hey, it has little glyphs on the inside, that’s cool! Is that your name, King?”
But King can’t hear her. King can’t think. King can’t speak. King can’t even breathe through his sudden panic, because she has his collar, and this entire morning just got so much worse.]
Or: Luz learns that there’s more to the King of Demons than meets the eye.
