Summary
The photo has been cut wavy around the edges, decorative as if to distract from the dead body Steve is hoisting half-aloft, front and centre, big sunny grin on his sweaty fucking face.
Steve privately wonders if he’s smiled like that since they killed Escobar.
“Jesus,” Peña breathes, eyes wide as he gapes up at Steve. “Jesus, Steve.”
Steve and Javi and one day in D.C.

Summary
“Oh, it's just a little something I like to call the music of my people,” Steve says. He’s wanted to do this ever since he watched Javi dancing at the bar the other night, and so far, so good. He’d had time to do just about everything except chug copious amounts of alcohol to calm his singing nerves.
He takes Javi’s beers and stashes the case in the fridge—there’s not much competition for the space, anyway. Javi is still staring at the stereo like it’s cursed. “Your people are my people too, you know,” he mutters. “In theory.”

Summary
At some point during the night they’d each pulled off their shoes and a few clothes and found their way under the covers. Once the initial bout of drunken sleepiness had worn off they’d been restless. Tossing and turning until finally Steve’s knee had landed against the side of Javi’s bare thigh.

The room was quiet, no car horns blaring outside or even the shouts of the locals calling out to each other. There was no rotating fan or the knock of the blinds against the window in the breeze.

Summary
Javi doesn’t know what triggers it. What sets the gears in motion, never to be cranked back to their starting place. Their boredom? The warm, dark car? Maybe the whiskey he and Steve have been sipping at, sloshing against the sides of the guy’s dented little flask. Or maybe it’s the fact that Connie’s been gone a month and some change, and Javi’s pretty susceptible to pitiful people.

“Hmmmyes,” Catfish said. He whined, a low and needy sound that was most certainly faked, because Catfish was grinning like a fucking psychopath and because he was the least needy omega Pope had ever met. Also, he probably really was a fucking psychopath. Clinically. All the best air jockeys were.

This thing between Javi and Steve is a mess, any way you look at it. Making his way into the bedroom – his bedroom, on paper, their bedroom, in reality – Steve’s mouth hot against his own, Steve’s hands working the buttons on his shirt, Javi doesn’t think he’ll ever get tired of it.
