    Tony suppressed a sigh and raised his eyebrows. He knew Peter too well. He knew every single expression and movement by heart. It was crystal clear the boy wasn’t actually sick, but he didn’t call him out on it.

    Tony knew, with a sick sense of always right, that the moment James Buchanan Barnes steps out of the plane (Hell, his mind whispers, even before) flanked by Steve, that Tony suddenly realizes that he’s the least important man on the tarmac. That he always has been.

    And as he watches the two lovers, he expects the disconsolate, gut wrenching feeling of watching a self-destructive prophecy unfold. He expects to feel as he has everyday for the past month. Instead, he feels a cool, sickening feeling of nothing. He isn’t sure which is worse. Stark men are made of iron, but even that begins to rust when mistreated.
