You almost forgot about Cuno, as impossible as that seems. You really weren't thinking ahead when you enlisted him, nor when you made the decision that you would take him back to your apartment. Jean had some good points about the wisdom of letting Cuno stay with you. His father is half-dead, but not actually dead. Your life is clearly a fucking mess, and not one conducive to rehabilitating a drug addicted delinquent.
The day after solving The Hanged Man case is easier to handle with Cuno at your side.

Kim could just leave without him. But he doesn’t. He just waits as the detective turns back to the phone, brow furrowed and eyes closed as he dials another number. It’s a long one. The detective has decided to harass people internationally. He stands there for a long while as it rings, wheezing and swaying in place, as though dancing to some old, half-remembered ballad. Something in Kim, some old policeman’s instinct or perhaps a new instinct of its own he’s built specifically for Lieutenant Double-Yefreitor Harry Du Bois, sends him a warning: this will not end well.
The Phone Call from Kim's perspective, in which he provides Harry with as much solace as an emotionally repressed temporary partner can provide.
