‘Alright, it’s recording now,’ greeted a voice— a man with a gentle tone.
The voice was kind of muffled and the audio quality was terrible as it was probably recorded in a much older device, and only using its default speakers. In the video, sat on a white bed was Yuusaku, looking much younger than he is now. Perhaps this Yuusaku was from a few years before they met, maybe around the time when he just graduated high school?
Ogata felt like he was hit by a truck upon realising what this video most likely is. He held his breath as he couldn't take his eyes off the next scenes that were slowly unfolding before him.

When the signal to charge was finally whistled, Yuusaku immediately leaped from the trenches— leading the barrage of men like pigs into slaughter. As the earth explodes and quakes, accompanied by the volleys of gunshots and the thunderous roar from the Maxim machine guns, second lieutenant Hanazawa Yuusaku led the battle across no man’s land, waving the imperial flag proudly as he shouts loud for victory.

It was true she’d suspected Koujirou was married already, Tome thinks as she rises, but she’d thought back then that perhaps his wife had been sickly; perhaps she didn’t please him and so he avoided her as much as he could. Knowing what she knows now, she can’t imagine his marriage has gone stale within a month, and yet he’d come to her, just as he’d promised he would. But Tome had seen the icy remoteness of Lady Hanazawa’s character; she’d wondered, as they’d eaten their shaved ices, whether it would even melt in her mouth. But then, she’d heard jokes about women like that – The colder on the surface, the hotter underneath – and she feels a shiver pass through her at the thought.
