Summary
Emma almost has everything. She's got a wonderful son, a beautiful, tender friend and co-parent, and a family she can count on. It was all she ever dreamed of, once upon a time. At times, she thinks she finally understands what authors mean when they end their story with: they lived happily ever after.
But the feeling always leaves her by the morning. Sometimes she thinks her real happy ending has disappeared somewhere in the past, somewhere in between the curses and forgotten memories. And now it is only a possibility lost to her memories.

Summary
Ann Walker is a teenager. Painfully shy, socially isolated, and awkward with people outside of her immediate family. Her older sister Elizabeth feels that it's time that Ann was bought out of herself a little, and in doing so accidentally introduces Ann to their utterly charming, endlessly fascinating, and casually domineering neighbour, Miss Anne Lister of Shibden Hall.

“I can’t have what I want. So.” Ann said in reply, thinking more so that might be the case. Especially now that it seemed like Anne wasn’t about to drop in to save her again.
“What do you want? Ann?”
“To fit in. And not be a nuisance.” Which was the usual reply that she gave.
“That isn’t what you meant. What do you want? Ann.”
Ann couldn’t tell Elizabeth then. And she was sure that her sister knew that. So she was sure that the reason that she found herself alone in the woods near Fortrose was only to get the answer out of her properly. Although, Ann had no idea how she was going to take the answer.Series
