Summary
Spending the summer in Hawkins had been wonderful - they’d moved back in the middle of June, integrating into their new home and re-familiarizing themselves with the town. Their friends had, of course, welcomed them with open arms, and the rest of the summer had been spent like it always had - hanging out around town, taking over Steve’s pool and abusing his summer job at the video store, sleepovers in Mike’s basement and afternoons at the arcade.
It had been wonderful, yet also overwhelming.
One thing he hadn’t missed in California, was the agony of being close to Mike.
The kicker of that, of course, is that there had been the agony of being away from Mike.
Will’s conclusion is that he’s just meant to suffer.
Are they ready to be swept off their feet?

Summary
Mike Wheeler has always believed that if something mattered, it would be obvious. That if someone had something important to say, they would say it. That the world was simpler than everyone thought, and honesty was instilled into everyone from the moment they were born.
This idea shifted in kindergarten. His first friend was Will Byers, a quiet boy with a terrible haircut and a love for drawing. As years went on, Mike realized that maybe honesty isn't the most important thing in the world. That maybe some things were best left unsaid, especially friendship altering ones. Sometimes it was okay to lie, especially if sparing your own feelings.
But then he met El, and things shifted once again.
Without really knowing what love was, he had fallen in love with her. He told himself for years that no one would ever capture his heart like El did, that he would burn the world down if it meant saving her.
And then she died.
Or, a Stranger Things epilogue rewrite/continuation where I do what the Duffer brothers couldn't.

Summary
Will smiles encouragingly at him, swiping his tears away and kissing his forehead again. "Let's make a deal, okay?" he murmurs, voice low and full of a bittersweet sort of hope. "If in five years we're both doing better, and we're not dating anyone else-" Mike blanches at the concept of dating anyone else, of Will dating anyone else- "we can try again, okay?"
Five years sounds like a terribly long time. In five years, Mike will be twenty-three. He'll be done with college, will have a career, could be living anywhere in the world for all he knows, and the same goes for Will.
But five years is a whole lot less than forever, so Mike will take it.
In the summer of 1989, Mike and Will fall apart. Five years later, they fall back together.

Summary
Mike Wheeler is used to the Fog. He’s used to the grey static that muffles the world when things get too loud to handle. But as he sits by the ugly plaid couch, the silence becomes louder than the screaming.
He waited for a perfect moment of sunshine to fix what he broke. Instead, he found a hurricane.
OR:
The Duffer Brothers really had Mike stand in the doorway for two seconds like a Sim with no queued actions, so I decided to give him a soul, a metric ton of guilt, and the ability to actually close the gap. A 'fix-it' for that two-second shot in Volume 2, because we deserved to see the angst happening inside his head.

Summary
It takes one, two, three seconds before Will’s heart starts beating again. And another three before he remembers to be mad at him about it. “Don’t call me that,” he protests weakly, but it’s no use. Mike’s grin only grows.
“Anything for you, Your Highness.”
“Michael,” Will hisses, yanking his hand away, but Mike is already laughing. It’s always been easy to get a rise out of him where Mike is involved, which is a fact Mike not only knows, but exploits on the regular. “I’m going to put the venom back in your arm and let your flesh rot off your body.”
Will really wishes Mike would learn that armor does not equate to invincibility. For Mike's own sake, it's probably a good thing Will knows magic.
