It’s not that he wants to tell the public - at least not for a long time, maybe not until they’re retired. He values both of their careers too much for that. Summary
On July 4, 2018, Ilya announces to the world that he has already played his last home game on Boston Raider ice. He's an Ottawa Centaur now, for better or for worse.
Most all of Boston Twitter agrees it's for worse.
Shane Hollander, watching alone on his couch at the cottage that Ilya just left a few days ago, knows it's for the better. And he thinks he knows that Ilya thinks it's for the better too, that Ilya's excited for the move, excited to be closer to Shane. It's just hard to remember that when Ilya looks so distracted and sad in the wake of the news breaking.
But one day, Shane's going to promise this man that he'll be there for him through better or worse, so he may as well start practicing now.

He can hear Shane’s voice in his head as he quickly packs a bag and bundles up to head out to his garage and pick a suitable car, telling him that he’s being ridiculous and impulsive, but he doesn’t care.
Ilya would do anything for Shane, including drive five hours from Boston to Montreal in a blizzard.
